The Davis Tax Committee’s recommendations to National Treasury to curb the use of trusts in tax and estate duty planning are steadily being implemented. From 1 March 2017 a far reaching provision affecting loans made by natural persons to trusts will come into force which will have costly consequences for all affected. Careful consideration of the consequences of this provision is necessary to minimise the effect thereof and to ensure compliance. Grant Thornton will delve into this and other proposed provisions affecting trusts to shed light on an ever increasing focus National Treasury and SARS focus area.

The Special Voluntary Disclosure Programme (SVDP) commenced on 1 October 2016. It is likely to be the last round of relief before more stringent investigation of foreign assets and non-compliance with tax and exchange control laws will commence. Find out what the SVDP entails and what consequences could arise if the relief that it offers is not taken advantage of.
