Job Purpose
To assist the company in accomplishing its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes. Facilitate the development and implementation of the enterprise risk management process through communication, coordination and execution related to the company’s risk management framework. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Internal Audit’s annual risk assessment and planning process to develop an audit plan and ensure the plan is responsive to and aligned with the strategy of the organization.
- Ensure the execution of individual audits as outlined in the audit plan.
- Issue Internal Audit Reports ensuring the reports are clear and concise, and that they provide value to management.
- Manage the Quality Assurance and Improvement Programme to ensure audits are conducted according to the Standards.
- Review all audit working papers and approve all audit reports.
- Ensure that follow-up audits are conducted to monitor that management actions have been effectively implemented.
- Develop and implement Internal Audit and Enterprise Risk Management policies inclusive of the Internal Audit Charter.
- Facilitate the development, approval, and implementation of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
- Provide active coaching, guidance, and support throughout the organization to effectively implement the Enterprise Risk Management Framework; ensuring that risk profiles are in place and action plans to mitigate identified risks are implemented.
- Evaluating risks associated with strategic initiatives and business processes and reporting monthly to the Executive Committee and quarterly to the Board Finance and Audit Committee of significant risk exposures and opportunities.
- Actively participate in executive management meetings to ensure that Internal Audit and Risk Management is well-informed of key business developments that could have an impact on audit and risk management priorities and plans.
- Determine the company's risk appetite and quantify the amount of risk it can take on.
- Assess risks throughout the organization monitor the progress of risk mitigation activities/plans and inform Senior Management and the Board of the top ten strategic and operational risks of the business inclusive of emerging risks.
- Identify Key Risk Indicators to have insight into possible weaknesses in an organisation.
- Ensure the preparation and management of the departmental budget.
Minimum requirements
- Bachelor of Commerce majoring in accounting/ auditing or equivalent.
- Must possess Professional Qualifications (CIA or CA), and must have served articles with a registered audit firm.
- Added advantage: A relevant Master’s degree.
- Minimum of eight (8) years as an auditor or risk management practitioner in a private or public enterprise. At least four (4) years of managerial exposure.
