SNG Grant Thornton and partners spearhead the first-ever Eswatini Green Indaba

The inaugural Eswatini Green Indaba hosted by the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs, SNG Grant Thornton and Partners will be a forum for raising awareness of green opportunities and mobilizing the private sector to support and finance climate action.

It further provides a platform for businesses to connect with policymakers and other stakeholders. Key stakeholders and related industries have been invited to the Indaba taking place on Monday 22nd May 2023 to Tuesday 23rd May 2023 at the Happy Valley Hotel, in Ezulwini.

Vusi Nkabindze, Director at SNG Grant Thornton Eswatini, said SNG Grant Thornton was very proud to be involved in this initiative that looks at the impact of climate change on financing, the carbon credit framework and at the same time alleviating unemployment within youth in the country.

“It will help to improve the country's resilience to climate change and build a more sustainable future for its people. The world is changing, and if we don’t do anything about it, we are going to perish” he said at a media briefing today (Tues 17 May 2023) ahead of the Indaba next week.

Nkabindze said the initiative brings to life SNG Grant Thornton’s ethos to go beyond business as usual and added that “working together we can accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy and act to address climate change to preserve our tomorrow.”

The Indaba follows on from the recent launch of the NDC Implementation Plan, where (Nationally Determined Contributions) highlight the efforts by each country to reduce national emissions and adapt to climate change in line with the Paris Agreement.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) states “The Paris Agreement is a landmark in the multilateral climate change process because, for the first time, a binding agreement brings all nations together to combat climate change and adapt to its effects.

Representing the private sector, SNG Grant Thornton has partnered with various stakeholders to help secure a sustainable future for the country. The partnership includes the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs; Ministry of Finance; UNDP; Eswatini Stock Exchange, Financial Services Regulatory Authority and the Central Bank of Eswatini.
